Danish-German lyric mezzo-soprano Laura Hilden is an emerging young artist with a growing presence on the German opera scene, distinguished by her warm, flexible voice, musical sensitivity and strong affinity for both opera and Lied.
In the 2026/27 season, she makes a series of role debuts at Theater Bremen, appearing as Mercédès in Carmen, Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, and Student 2 / Lilly in Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence. She also returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper, where she covers the title role in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and to Staatstheater Nürnberg as a guest artist.
From 2024 to 2026, Laura was a member of the International Opera Studio at Staatstheater Nürnberg, where her roles included Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Annina in La traviata, Dama di Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, and several roles in Alban Berg’s Lulu. Further appearances have taken her to the Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatstheater Augsburgand Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, where she appeared as Olga in Die lustige Witwe.
Alongside her operatic work, Laura has a particular commitment to the Lied repertoire. She won First Prize at the Rued Langgaard Competition in Copenhagen in 2022 and has since appeared in recitals in Denmark and Germany. She has worked with artists including Gerold Huber and has received Lied coaching from Christian Gerhaher, Tobias Truniger, Werner Güra, Dorothea Röschmann and Ian Bostridge.
Her concert repertoire includes Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Chausson’s Poème de l’amour et de la mer, Bach’s St John Passion, Mozart’s Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle, Bruckner’s Mass No. 3 and de Falla’s El amor brujo.
Laura began her vocal training in Copenhagen with Marianne Rørholm before continuing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, where she completed her Bachelor of Music with Daniela Sindram and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree with KS Christiane Iven. Her studies in Munich have also included Lied classes with Christian Gerhaher and Tobias Truniger.
Laura is a recipient of the Else Brems Travel Foundation Award 2026, was a finalist in the Voice of the Sea Competition 2025 in Åland and received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Foundation Munich in 2023.
