British baritone George Clark is establishing himself as a versatile performer across opera, concert and art song. Distinguished by his richly coloured baritone, expressive nuance and vocal flexibility, he has a particular affinity for contemporary repertoire.

In May 2026, he appeared at Oper Köln as the Artisan and the Collector in George Benjamin’s Picture a Day Like This, having previously performed the roles at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl in 2025. His recent operatic engagements also include Ramiro in Ravel’s L’heure espagnole at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and appearances in Paul Abraham’s Märchen im Grand-Hotel at Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

Clark’s operatic experience further includes the title roles in Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis and Kurt Weill’s Der Zar lässt sich fotografieren, Marcello in Puccini’s La bohème, Marco in Gianni Schicchi, and Collatinus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. He has also appeared in Brett Dean’s Hamlet at both Oper Köln and the Bayerische Staatsoper.

In May 2026, Clark gave the world premiere of Jonathan Sersam’s Fem Sånger, commissioned by Ensemble Multilatéral and Fondation Royaumont, at the Abbaye de Royaumont with Ensemble Multilatéral under the direction of Léo Warynski. The performance was broadcast by Radio France.

In October 2026, he appeared as a soloist with the Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège under Matteo Dal Maso, performing an excerpt from the title role of Britten’s Billy Budd.

Further highlights of his concert repertoire include Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder with the Filarmonica de Stat Dinu Lipatti in Satu Mare, Romania, and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen at the Orchesterzentrum in Dortmund, as well as the role of Faust in Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust at the Düsseldorf Schumannfest.

An accomplished Lied interpreter, Clark was awarded First Prize at the 2026 Fanny Hensel Competition for Lied duos alongside pianist Rachel Doubijanski. His other distinctions include Fourth Prize at the 2025 Copenhagen Lied-Duo Competition and finalist status at the 2025 International Singing Competition in Clermont-Ferrand, both alongside pianist Pierre-Nicolas Colombat, as well as First Prize at the 2023 Rometsch Competition in Düsseldorf. His recital appearances include performances with pianist Eric Schneider in Switzerland and Cologne.

Clark is currently an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. He studied with Professor Konrad Jarnot at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, completing his studies in 2024, following a First-Class Honours degree in Music from the University of York. He has received scholarships from the Richard Wagner Foundation, DAAD and Deutschlandstipendium.
